Tracey Lam maintains a 3.75 GPA in economics and Asian studies. She is a two-time Rice University President’s Honor roll member, a three-time Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection and a member of the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2nd Team (2008 and 2009).

Character

Lam is the 2010 Joyce Pounds Hardy winner (Rice version of Lowe’s Senior CLASS award). According to head coach Genny Volpe, Lam is one of the most humble, yet talented people. She is bright, talented, a great leader by example and most of all she has a great heart.  She cares about people and thinks of others before herself.

Community

As a department tutorial leader for the Rice University Japanese Department, Lam leads first- and second-year language students in directed conversations to reinforce correct grammar and diverse vocabulary and develop familiarity and comfort in speaking the language and employs different mediums to strengthen listening, reading, and cultural comprehension. As a Rice Peer Academic Advisor, she advises students on such academic matters as class scheduling, graduation requirements, faculty recommendations, independent study, research and work and study abroad, and acts as a liaison between the Rice volleyball team and the Office of Academic Advising. As the committee head for the Rice Athletics Awards Banquet Printing Committee, she collaborated with the sports information department to design and distribute invitations and event programs, and organized an RSVP system that included print and website responses to keep an accurate headcount. As a volunteer with the Glasscock School of Continuing Studies as an ESL conversation partner, Lam speaks to ESL students in English and when they need it, in their home tongue. Lam is a member of the Chinese Students Association and is active within her dorm, helping coordinate events for faculty/staff.

Competition

In 2009, Lam ranked ninth in the NCAA in digs per set (5.50). She was an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and was on the AVCA All-Midwest Region team. She is a two-time Conference USA libero of the year (2008 and 2009), an All-Conference USA First Team member (2009) and second-team selection (2008) and a member of the Conference USA Championship All-Tournament Team (2009). Her Rice career record 1,701 digs ranks seventh in C-USA history.
