Johnson is a three-time Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honoree and a three-time San Jose State University Scholar-Athlete.

Character

Johnson has been elected one of four team captains for the 2012 San Jose State football team. In his second year participating in the local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes he was also an Eagle Scout as a youngster.

Community

Johnson has represented the football program as a speaker at Spartan Foundation events that support San Jose State University student-athlete scholarships. He has volunteered for the Second Harvest Food Bank collections at Thanksgiving and in the football team’s Be The Match drive to sign up potential bone marrow donors to the national registry.

Competition

Johnson has played in 37 games and has 29 starts heading into the 2012 season. He has 153 tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss and 19.0 quarterback sacks in his first three seasons and ranks third among active players for tackles for loss and is tied for second among active players in quarterback sacks. Named to the 2012 Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award and Hendricks Award watch lists, Johnson was voted by the media the 2012 preseason Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Is a 2011 first-team All-WAC defensive lineman and two-time WAC Player of the Week in 2011.
