Classroom

Tyler David is a business administration major who maintains a 3.5 grade-point average. He has represented Saint Louis University on the A-10 Commissioner’s Honor and has been recognized numerous times as a Billiken Scholar-Athlete. He serves as one of the Billikens’ academic team captains, which involves a system that allows him to help younger soccer student-athletes with study habits and classroom work ethic. David is on track to graduate in December in just 3.5 years.

Character

David was not heavily recruited out of high school and came to Saint Louis University as a walk-on. His attitude and work ethic shined during his first year, and he eventually earned a scholarship due to his consistent work and performance. A team captain, David is a very intelligent, humble and caring leader. He is always there for his teammates and was instrumental in helping a teammate who was battling depression and alcohol abuse.

Community

As the president of the SLU Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), David not only performs community service but also helps organize a department consisting of 350-plus student-athletes. David and the SAAC are heavily involved in the Special Needs Soccer Association, which is a St. Louis-based soccer program for youth with disabilities. Several years ago, the Billikens signed a young child as he battled cancer. David and his teammates took part in the “Light the Night Cancer Walk,” and, while the young man beat the disease, David still remains close to the family.

David also was instrumental in putting together an event for an organization called KEEN that centered around allowing handicapped children to enjoy a sports environment with the SLU student-athletes. Additionally, David put on a dodgeball tournament for Billiken student-athletes and organized a canned food drive.

Competition

David is a two-time Atlantic 10 Conference All-Conference selection. As a junior in 2014, he scored the game-winning goal against nationally ranked Louisville. He also scored in the Billikens’ A-10 victory against UMass and was a key part of the Billikens’ defensive effort that saw SLU lead the A-10 in shutouts.

As a sophomore in 2013, David was part of a Billiken defensive team effort that finished third in the A-10 in fewest goals allowed and shutouts. In David’s freshman campaign in 2012, he was a key component of the Billiken back line, helping SLU post nine shutouts. SLU’s defense was second in the A-10 in fewest goals allowed.

During his career, David has helped the Billikens to two NCAA Tournament appearances and an A-10 title in 2012.
