Classroom
Grant is a recreation, parks and tourism management major and maintains a 2.76 grade point average. She earned a 3.0 in the fall of 2008. She would one day like to be the owner of an indoor waterpark resort.
Character
Grant is a hard worker on and off the court. She spent time in early May trying out for USA Basketball’s World University Games team, just missing out on a spot. She can be found in the gym and in the weight room working to make herself (and her teammates) better players, day in and day out.
Community
Grant is very involved in the community. She has volunteered her time working with the following organizations or at the following events:
• United Way Day of Caring – painting houses in the community.
• Spotting for therapeutic horseback riding lessons for children through the Easter Seals.
• Participating in the American Cancer Society Walk-a-thon.
• Serving as an official for Special Olympics.
• Working at various basketball clinics for kids.
• Volunteering at Houserville Elementary School.
• Various other community outreach programs (i.e. Operation Salute and WBCA PInk Zone).
• Reaches out to childen in the community through the Washington’s Whoopsters Kids Club program.
Competition
Grant was a 2009 All-Big Ten first team selection and a semifinalist for the 2009 Naismith Player of the Year award. She begins her senior season on the Wooden Watch list and with her sights set on becoming the fourth player in school history with 2,000 points, needing 553 points. In 2008-09, Grant finished second in the Big Ten and 18th in Division I with a 19.6 scoring average. Her scoring mark is sixth on Penn State’s storied single-season scoring chart. Grant was selected as last year’s team MVP after registering two games with 30 or more points and 15 outings with 20 or more points. She single-handedly lifted Penn State to a comeback win over Wisconsin in January 2009 as she scored to 23 of her game-high 32 points to erase a 17-point second half deficit. Grant, who had 12 of PSU’s 13 points in overtime against the Badgers, hit a jumper at the buzzer to send the Lions home with the win. Grant is also a two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention selection in her career and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team in 2006-07.
