Tyson Spink has been a solid student during his time at one of the nation’s toughest academic institutions, compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.25 during his seven completed semesters at Colgate. An educational studies major, Spink was named to the ECAC All-Academic Team following his sophomore and junior seasons. He has been named to the Dean’s List at Colgate for the fall 2015 semester and will be recognized as a member of the Raider Academic Honor Roll in March.

Character

Spink is considered one of the leaders for the Raiders, both on and off the ice. Through his play, Spink inspires his teammates to perform to the best of their abilities every time they step on the ice. He gives 100 percent every time he puts on the maroon and white and expects the same of his teammates, now matter what the situation may be. Off the ice, Spink always has set an example for his teammates regarding how to conduct themselves as a member of the program.

Community

Spink is an active member of both the Colgate and Hamilton communities. Spink and his teammates have worked closely with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that pairs collegiate teams with children facing life-threatening or chronic illness. Through Team IMPACT, Spink and the Raiders have befriended Danny, a local boy with cerebral palsy. Danny is considered part of the team and often spends time at practices, games and other events with the players. Spink is also very active in a variety of community-outreach programs, including school visits, learn-to-skate lessons and other such events.

Competition

Through January 25, Spink has been having an outstanding senior season, leading Colgate in goals (10), assists (17) and points (27). Spink ranks in top ten in ECAC Hockey in all three categories as of that date. He is fourth among active NCAA players in career assists (75/4th) and career points (115/8th). Spink is tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (2), and he has matched career high in points (4) on three occasions this season. He has dished out a personal-best four assists in two contests. Spink became the 51st player in program history to reach the 100-point milestone for his career with a three-point (2g,1a) performance against RIT on Oct. 23. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Catamount Cup in December. A third-team All-ECAC selection last season, Spink led the Raiders in scoring for a second straight season with 31 points. He paced the squad in assists (17) and tied for the team lead in goals (14). As a sophomore, Spink posted a team-best 31 points. He has attended development camp with the Detroit Red Wings in each the past two offseasons.
