A biology major with a 3.97 cumulative GPA on track to graduate in May 2021, Brown was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America second team in 2019, becoming the first junior female student-athlete in RMU history to garner Academic All-America recognition. She was one of four juniors on last year’s Academic All-America list and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District II pick. Brown also garnered Northeast Conference (NEC) Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2019 and has been placed on three NEC Commissioner’s Honor Roll lists and the 2020 Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll. She has made Dean’s List every semester since Fall 2017 and is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Fraternity at RMU.

Character

Brown is a two-year teammate-elected captain of the RMU volleyball team. She was a First Year Seminar Program (FYSP) mentor for two years, helping teach a class about RMU basics to incoming freshmen. Brown worked in a University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) research lab in 2017 and 2018 and serves as a nursing assistant at Concordia of Franklin Park, an assisted living facility. She also spent three years working as a waitress from 2017 to the beginning of 2020.

Community

Brown serves as a nursing assistant at the assisted living facility Concordia of Franklin Park and volunteers as a clinic coach for Pittsburgh Elite Volleyball. She is a volunteer camp counselor at North Star Reach, interacting with children who had undergone transplant surgeries to provide a real summer camp experience. Brown also is a volunteer member of Med-Ed, working with a group of students in pre-health professions to speak virtually to high school students on how to prepare for college and other future endeavors. She also assisted at the RMU Day of Service in 2020 with her teammates.

Competition

Brown is coming off a stellar junior season, earning Molten/NEC Player of the Week twice as well as a spot on the All-NEC Second Team. She ranks sixth all-time at RMU in assists with 2,237 as of March 9 of this season, and has 245 career double-doubles. In the current 2021 spring slate, Brown ranks fourth in the Horizon League at 9.37 assists per set after leading the NEC at 10.06 assists per set as a junior. As a sophomore, she slotted third in the NEC in assists with 8.01 per set, and ranked 10th in service aces with 0.26 per frame.
