Whitney Knight finished her undergraduate degree with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average as a community health major and has continued her education with a health studies graduate degree. She was named to the Dean’s List twice in the last year and earned Athletic Director’s Honor Roll status six times during her undergraduate coursework. She holds a 4.0 grade-point average in graduate work.

Character

Knight is the ultimate lead-by-example student-athlete who increases the level of play for everyone around her. After tearing her ACL early in her freshman season, Knight has built back her game to be better than ever, and she continues to hit her stride each season. She trains with intensity and selflessness, constantly working to better the team.

Community

Knight has become a recognizable face in the Southwest Florida community and is a fan favorite among the team’s youth fans as well as among the student body. Knight volunteers her time at local elementary schools as part of the Eagle Reading program in which athletes read to the children at the beginning of the school day once a week. She has also been involved in efforts to raise money and collect food items for the Harry Chapin Food Bank, a local organization that helps the southwest Florida area and students on FGCU’s campus.

Competition

A versatile guard, Knight led the Atlantic Sun with 15.1 points per game as a junior, while also pulling down 6.3 rebounds per game. Knight stood out as the nation’s only player last season to lead a league in both 3-pointers made and blocked shots and put up 91 3-pointers and 87 blocks through 34 games. Her total 3-pointers made ranked seventh in the nation, and Knight scored double figures in all but five games last season with 15 or more points on 19 occasions to lead the team to a 31-3 record and a top-25 ranking. Knight finished the season as the 2015 Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, a first-team all-conference nod and was voted the Preseason Player of the Year for the 2015-16 season.
