Classroom

In 2007, ESPN The Magazine named Averbuch to their second-team Academic All-America and First Team All-District III. She was also selected as the ACC Women’s Soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year, and served as a member of the All-ACC Academic Team. Averbuch maintains a 3.71 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Character

Averbuch was elected team captain of both the 2007 and 2008 Tar Heel women’s soccer teams. Yael was also the winner of the Carolina Leadership Academy Three-Dimensional Leader Award this past season. Currently, Averbuch serves as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Community

Yael has been active in her community ranging from organizing women’s soccer events at Chapel Hill Ronald McDonald House to hosting Carolina Dreams projects with her teammates where critically ill patients from North Carolina Children’s Hospital attend games.

In her junior season, Averbuch had multiple accolades: First-Team All-ACC, All-ACC?Tournament, Soccer Buzz Player of the Year Finalist, Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, Umbro/Soccer News Net Player of the Year Award finalist, NSCAA First-Team All-America, First-Team Soccer America MVP, Soccer Buzz First-Team All-America, Soccer Buzz First-Team All-Southeast Region, NSCAA?First-Team All-Southeast Region, Jewish Sports Review All-America, and Top Drawer Soccer First-Team College Team of the Season.
