Zach Allen, a finance major in the Carroll School of Management, entered his senior year with a 3.701 cumulative grade-point average. He earned dean’s list first honors in the fall of 2016 and is a three-time dean’s list second honors recipient, including the Fall 2017 semester. Allen was voted a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team member and was previously recognized with the 2015 BC Athletic Director’s Award for academic achievement. Additionally, he has twice represented BC as an All-ACC Academic Team selection.

Character

The Eagles’ nominee for the NFF Scholar-Athlete Award and a member of the Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list, Allen is a proven leader on the field and in the classroom. Following a standout junior season that drew the attention of professional scouts, Allen turned down the opportunity to pursue professional football. He chose to return to BC to complete his degree, be a part of the BC community and help lead and elevate the football program.

Community

Allen has taken the opportunity to get involved in the community through multiple activities related to the BC athletic department. He has participated in Cycle for Survival which is a movement to beat rare forms of cancer. Allen is a regular representative of the BC football team at the Tobin Community Center and the Campus School at Boston College, a program designed to educate students ages 3 to 21 who face complex challenges and have unique learning needs.

Competition

On the field, Allen became a dominant force on the BC defensive line in 2017, as he was one of two defensive linemen in the country with 100 tackles or more. He earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors and was the recipient of the 79th annual George “Bulger” Lowe Award (“New England’s Heisman”). He led BC with six sacks and tied for 10th in BC single-season history with 15.5 tackles for loss. So far in his career, Allen has totaled 138 tackles, 25.5 TFLs and 12.0 sacks (as of nomination time).
