Hickson is currently a two-year representative for the men’s basketball team on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and majors in sports management at Saint Augustine’s. “Brandon is a natural leader on and off the court. He exemplifies what the award is all about. He is always one of the first guys to jump in and participate in community service,” said head coach Lonnie Blow Jr. Hickson has volunteered along with several other Falcon student-athletes to raise walls at a Habitat for Humanity home in Raleigh, NC, and has mentored elementary school kids at Wilburn Elementary School, also in Raleigh. In addition, he reads to elementary students at the Boys and Girls Club in Raleigh. Hickson was one of several members of the Falcon basketball team to participate in the Holy Ghost block party, hosted by Lost Sheep Outreach Ministries. According to the reverend of outreach ministries, the purpose of the block party was to engage the community with a local church, spread love to the community and introduce people to Jesus Christ. On the court, Hickson started at point guard in 13 games and played in all 27 regular-season contests. As the team’s floor leader, he led the Falcons in assists (2.9 per game) and shot 41 percent from behind the three-point line. Hickson scored a career-high 15 points against Livingstone College on February 17, 2009. He was part of the nucleus that led the Falcons to the 2009 CIAA Tournament semifinals.
