Jamel McAllister has been as impressive in the classroom as he has been on the basketball court. He has maintained a 3.472 grade-point average, and he has been on the Winston-Salem State University Dean’s List for every semester of his career.


McAllister has been a vital part of the Rams men’s basketball team for all four seasons. After beginning his career as a key performer off the bench, he’s gone from being a strong role player to becoming a true leader on the court. He has also been a leader in the classroom and as a member of the WSSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).


McAllister has been a great participant in the community during his career, taking part in several community service activities with the Rams. He participated in a mentoring program at Ashley Academy and participated in the Financial Simulation activity at Paisley Middle School. In addition to participating in youth programs, he also has taken part in Activity Day with Residents at the Trinity Glenn Adult Care Center and the Cook & Serve Dinner at the SECU Family House in Winston-Salem, N.C.


McAllister has had a terrific career at Winston-Salem State. He began his career with a solid freshman season in which he played in all 28 games with three starts. He came back for a great sophomore season and played in 26 of the team’s 27 games, totaling 163 points with 109 rebounds. His best season came as a junior last season when he averaged 9.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He played in 25 of the team’s 26 games with 25 starts and scored a career-high 22 points against Johnson C. Smith. This season, he is once again one of the team’s top performers. He has started every game this season and is the team’s third leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points per game.
