Tyre Gathright

Saint Augustine’s University
Business Administration

Tyre Gathright is an exceptional basketball player and an exceptional collegiate student. He maintains a 3.24 grade-point average in the classroom. He is on the dean’s list and the scholar-athlete list at Saint Augustine’s University.

Gathright is a nice, reserved young man who is very respectful. Head Coach MarQus Johnson said, “You don’t have to worry about him getting in trouble off the court. He is the ideal student-athlete and a great kid. You want your son to act like him.”

Gathright and his teammates have been busy helping others in the community since he arrived at Saint Augustine’s University two years ago. In 2017 and 2018, Gathright and the rest of the Falcons team assisted the Helping Hand Mission in Raleigh, N.C., with its annual Thanksgiving food drive. He filled and delivered food boxes to families at the Helping Hand Mission facility. Gathright and his teammates also provided mentorship to middle school kids in the Helping Hand program for Wake County Schools and coached middle school and elementary school kids in little league games at the J.D. Lewis Multipurpose Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Gathright is one of the top shooting guards in the CIAA. The velvety smooth senior led the Falcons in scoring last season with a 15.2 average that earned him a spot on the All-CIAA team. He shot 45.6 percent from the floor on mostly perimeter shooting, including a solid 38.5 percent average behind the three-point arc. Gathright is so highly regarded that he made the preseason All-CIAA squad in October 2018, and he has not disappointed this season. He averages 19.2 points per game, which is the second-highest average in the conference.
