As the Senior CLASS Award continues to evolve and maneuver through the COVID-19 pandemic, it has always been our goal to recognize and honor the well-deserving senior student-athletes who represent their prestigious universities during the 2020-21 academic school year.

Nominations for the various Senior CLASS Award sports are beginning to open up and we wanted to take this opportunity to clarify how the award process will be conducted during this ever-changing time and address a frequently asked question surrounding award eligibility.

This summer, when the NCAA granted all seniors participating in fall sports (2020) and winter sports (2020-21) with an additional year of eligibility, the Senior CLASS Award began visualizing how to adapt to the opportunity presented to senior student-athletes to return for an additional year of eligibility in 2021-22 if he/she elected to do so.

To that end, regarding nominations for the various Senior CLASS Award sports for 2020-21, it’s been determined that any senior student-athlete who would have exhausted his/her eligibility at the end of the Spring 2021 semester is eligible for the award during the 2020-21 academic school year.

If the nominated student-athlete is selected as a candidate in 2020-21, but does not ultimately become a finalist, he/she can be nominated again during the 2021-22 academic school year if he/she elects to return for his/her waiver year of eligibility. If a student-athlete is named a finalist in 2020-21, he/she is no longer eligible for the award in 2021-22 if he/she elects to return for an additional season.

By following this approach, the Senior CLASS Award is remaining consistent with its long-standing rules for handling senior student-athletes who proceed to gain an additional year of eligibility.

We wish everyone a happy and health holiday season and look forward to honoring another outstanding group of senior student-athletes throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 academic school year.
