Legendary sportscaster Dick Enberg watched the 2001 National Championship Game carefully as senior center Shane Battier led Duke University to the NCAA Men's Division I Title against rival Arizona.

Recalling that Battier’s decision to turn down a possible opportunity of being a lottery pick in the NBA and return to Duke for his senior season was the media story of year in college basketball, Enberg imagined the Senior CLASS Award and suggested such an award during the 2001 CBS Final Four telecast. Later that year, Premier Sports Management invited Enberg to became Honorary Chairman of the now-popular award.

Enberg is arguably the premier sportscaster of our time, with a storied career spanning nearly 4 decades. His image, voice, and vital personality have entertained millions of viewers at sporting event broadcasts that include numerous Super Bowls, Olympics, Wimbledons, and other major and minor sporting events.
