Abby Carchio is was a 2018 Fall Academic All-Ivy selection. With a concentration in history, she has an interest in entering a career in coaching and in mentoring the next generation of soccer players.

Character

One of Brown’s undisputed leaders on and off the field, Carchio is serving the Bears as a team captain during the 2019 season. As of nomination time, she had started 31 consecutive games over the last two years and helped Brown post a record of .500 or better in each of her first three seasons. Carchio helped the team score 29 goals in 2018 (the team’s most since 2006), aided the team to 11 victories in 2017 (the team’s most since 2000), and helped the team finish second in the Ivy League standings in 2016 (the Bears highest finish in the league since 1994).

Community

During the summer of 2018, Carchio took part in Brown’s Global Sport Community Fellows Program, a dynamic summer fellowship opportunity for Brown student-athletes focused on strengthening the capacity of local community organizations to deliver sport opportunities for Providence-area youth. Partnering with the Providence After School Alliance alongside teammate Christine Etzel, Carchio designed and implemented a four-week soccer program for Providence youth. This past summer, Carchio helped welcome the Bears’ Team IMPACT match, Leilani Favala, to the team with a special Draft Day in August.

Competition

Carchio put together an outstanding junior campaign, earning first-team All-Ivy honors, third-team All-East Region honors, a first-team All-New England selection, and New England Midfielder of the Year honors. During the 2018 season, she led the Ivy League in points (28) and assists (8), while ranking second in the conference in goals (10). A back-to-back first-team All-Ivy selection in 2017 and 2018, she has earned the team’s Ridgely Most Valuable Player Award in each of the last two years. Also a two-time All-New England selection, she has totaled 40 points on 13 goals and 14 assists in 46 career games played.
