Classroom

Alex Heinen is truly dedicated to excelling in her chosen field of film and television. This past summer, she earned a highly coveted internship with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and was heavily involved with everyday operations and social media activities. She owns a cumulative 3.34 GPA and is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll (2017, 2018) recipient for posting a GPA of 3.20 or higher.

Character

Heinen consistently displays the highest level of sportsmanship as she always introduces herself to the umpire in such an upbeat fashion, and after the game, win or lose, shakes hands with the umpires, thanking them. From Head Coach Ashley Waters: “Alex is incredibly selfless. She puts the team’s needs before her own. She goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is comfortable and feels secure academically and athletically. She is the first at every practice, last to leave and cleans up every piece of equipment. She celebrates others’ success more than her own. She is the most humble player I have ever coached. Alex understands greatness is contagious. She leads with kindness. She makes people feel great, and in turn, they play great. Every team we play compliments her, not as a player, although she is talented, but as a person. Her good nature and positivity is recognizable to teams we do not even know. She represents sportsmanship better than anyone I know.”

Community

Heinen has been involved with SAAC on campus, participating in Special Olympics events and Boston’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk as examples. She’s also been a part of the annual Holiday Reading Program through which BU student-athletes go to a school to read to children.

Competition

Heinen is the 2019 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year. This past season, she became the second catcher in Patriot League history to earn the conference’s Player of the Year honors while adding her first NFCA All-Region and ECAC All-Star awards. She caught every pitch in 59 games while batting a team-high .355 to help BU capture both the Patriot League regular season and tournament crowns en route to a 39-20 record. Her 71 hits ranked t-4th all-time at BU and t-7th in the Patriot League record books. Her 50 RBIs ranked second-most in Patriot League history and No. 3 in BU history. She added 23 runs, 12 doubles, three triples and three homers while posting a .983 fielding percentage. She helped BU shock then-No. 1 Oklahoma during the regular season and later reach the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.

Batting a career .309, Heinen is a three-time All-Patriot League Conference honoree with first-team honors in 2018 and second-team honors in 2016 and 2017. She already ranks t-5th all-time at BU with 117 RBIs, 23 shy of the school record. She also ranks fifth all-time at BU in doubles with 33 total. She hit .294 in 2017 with seven homers and 42 RBIs, and she batted .267 with three homers and 25 RBIs in 2016 to help the Terriers reach the NCAA tournament.
