A Psychology major with a minor in American Sign Language, Smith holds a 3.38 grade-point average. During the 2012-2013 season, she was one of six players named to the Academic All-Patriot League team. Smith was also a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Her work as a Psychology major was used this past summer, working as a summer youth volunteer coordinator intern at the United Way in Worcester, Mass. At the internship, she coordinated 13 volunteer events in the Worcester community while managing over 40 youths from 13-17 years old.

Character

Smith has been a strong and influential leader both on and off the court for Holy Cross. A team captain since her junior year, Smith is a three-year member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy and is the representative for the women’s basketball team. At the academy, she works with other team captains to develop leadership techniques that can be applied to help their respective teams. As captain, Smith acts as a role model for her teammates and serves as a liaison to the coaching staff for any issues/concerns that may arise.

Community

Over her career at Holy Cross, Smith has been heavily involved in the Worcester community. She serves as the coordinator of Holy Cross’ participation in Team Impact. With Team Impact, the Holy Cross women’s basketball team adopts a child in the Worcester area who has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Smith works with the organization and the parents of the child to coordinate events and activities with the child to make her a part of the team. Smith also makes weekly visits to the Parsons Hill Nursing Home in Worcester to interact, play games and talk with senior citizens who rarely see visitors. In addition to the aforementioned work with the United Way, Smith also plays a vital role in organizing annual events with the team, such as Holy Cross Cares Day, the Mercy Center Basketball Game and the Walk to Cure Cancer.

Competition

Smith has been one of the key factors to Holy Cross’ success on the court for her entire career. Named first team All-Patriot League as a sophomore and junior - and preseason All-Patriot League this season - Smith has helped lead the Crusaders to the Patriot League championship game two years in a row. Although the team lost both contests, Smith was named to the All-Tournament team in both seasons. This year, she set the Patriot League and Holy Cross career three-pointers made record and currently ranks fifth among the NCAA active leaders. Smith is the only player in Holy Cross history to achieve over 1,400 points, 400 assists and 400 rebounds in a career, accomplishing all of those milestones this season. This year, she is averaging 13.8 points (ninth in the conference), 5.2 assists (second in the conference) and 3.6 rebounds per game. She also set a career-high with 31 points in a game and was named Patriot League Player of the Week on Dec. 23. In 113 career games played, Smith has compiled 1,457 points (11th in HC history), 497 assists (sixth in HC history), 415 rebounds and 192 steals.
