Allison Arens is on track to graduate in May of 2020 and will student-teach in 2019-20 after exhausting her athletic eligibility. She boasts a 3.84 grade-point average and earned 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. She also is a two-time to the Academic All-Summit League honoree, a Summit League honor roll member and listed on the Summit League Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence.

Character

As a team captain, Arens has started the past three years for the Coyotes, taking on a starting role as a sophomore following the graduation of five seniors. She has excelled under a coaching staff change between her freshman and sophomore seasons and has demonstrated leadership with younger players the past two seasons.

Community

Arens volunteers with several different programs. She is helps with the reading program for students at Jolley Elementary School, serves food to the needy at the Vermillion Welcome Table and volunteers with special needs students at Vermillion High School. She spent an afternoon and played softball with the Miracle League (special needs organization) in Sioux City, recycled and packaged food following a food drive at the Vermillion Armory, visited Vermillion nursing home to sing Christmas carols and worked camps and clinics with Vermillion youth on the basketball court.

Competition

Arens is a two-time All-Summit League First Team selection. She led the Coyotes to a perfect 14-0 Summit League regular season title in 2017-18, the first time the feat had been accomplished in 24 years. She averaged 10 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in her first three seasons. Arens holds five school records for free throws: game, season and career percentage; and made and attempted in a game. She holds a career high of 30 points and 13 rebounds while boasting a career field goal percentage of .477. Arens was a member of South Dakota’s WNIT Championship team as a freshman in 2015-16.
