Competition

On the field, McWherter was the Huskies’ defensive specialist on their run to the 2009 National Championship, holding down the centerfield position for most of the season. She appeared in 53 games, compiling a .971 fielding percentage and making several game-saving plays with her glove, including robbing two home runs in back-to-back innings in a game early in the season, one which would have been a grand slam and the other which would have been a three-run home run. She also batted .273 with eight runs and two RBI, swiping two bases in four attempts.
