Character

It is with great pleasure that I refer Alyssa Diggs for the Senior CLASS Award.  As the Head Coach of the University of Missouri Women’s Soccer program for 18 years I have been honored to work with outstanding students.  Alyssa is intelligent, eager to excel, compassionate, a leader, great with all types of people, extremely hard working, and always bettering herself. She has successfully mastered how to balance many activities while maintaining excellence on the field and in the classroom.

In addition to Alyssa’s skills on the field and in the classroom, she has interpersonal skills that really set her apart from many young women.  It is extremely apparent that Alyssa makes an impact by leading by example, setting the bar for high intensity play while endlessly encouraging her teammates. Even when Alyssa is sidelined to overcome injuries, her presence on the field is never lost as she continues to vocally organize and inspire from the bench. In every capacity, Alyssa betters herself for her fellow athletes.

People as passionate, disciplined, and well-rounded as Alyssa Diggs are hard to come by. With character like hers and the skills she has developed in four years with me, it is obvious she an exceptional human being.  She is an extremely bright and balanced individual, and I consider it my privilege to advise you to recommend her for the Senior CLASS Award and learn firsthand what this young woman is capable of.

Community

Very active in the Columbia, Mo., community. Has spent time volunteering at The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri and Paxton Keeley Elementary, was a Special Olympics buddy and took part in the Mizzou Moves Healthy Lunch event at Paxton Keeley. Also is one of the soccer team’s Mizzou Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representatives and very involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Competition

Alyssa Diggs stands as only the third play in Mizzou program history to earn two first team all-conference selections. She was selected to the 2012 All-Southeastern Conference first team after notching a team-high 17 points on eight goals and an assist, despite missing five games due to injury. During the 2012 season, she earned SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, CollegeSoccer360 Primetime Performer and College Sports Madness SEC Player of the Week honors. Diggs also earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Conference first team in 2011 and recorded 12 points on four goals and four assists. Entering her senior season, Diggs has played in 57 games and earned 47 starts at forward. She has career goals of 14 goals and eight assists for 36 points.
