Classroom
Karel maintains a 3.87 GPA in the nursing honors program. She’s a two-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honoree, a two-time Academic All-Big Ten member and a five-time member of the Dean’s List.
Character
Karel was voted the team MVP last season and she enters her senior season as a co-captain. She’s a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, SAAC and she’s currently working on her clinicals in nursing school, performing blood pressure screening and flu clinics at senior-citizen centers.
Community
Karel has volunteered at the YMCA for kids day, visited local elementary schools to read to children and also play with them during recess and participated in the Red-White Hunger White, picking up food items to be distributed to local food pantries.
Competition
After her junior season, Karel was a second-team All-Big Ten pick by both the coaches and media. She’s a two-time Big Ten tournament MVP and has led the Badgers in scoring the last two seasons. She was an All-Big Ten honorable-mention selection in 2009.
