Character

Jaeschke has been an amazing ambassador for Northwestern’s women’s basketball program and has been the main catalyst for changing the program’s culture over the past three years. After her freshman year, the program experienced a coaching change, which Amy handled perfectly. She has stepped up to be a leader on and off the court, hosting team bonding dinners and activities throughout the season. She has bought in to the new coach’s philosophy and has been an outstanding role model for those who were on the team prior to the coaching change. Externally, she has represented Northwestern at Big Ten media days for four straight years.

Community

Jaeschke is the Wildcats’ most active community-service participant. She has been involved in approximately 38 community-service projects during her career at Northwestern, including tutoring at Willard Elementary School, walking for Autism Speaks and participating in several donor events. She also has been an instructor at several skills camps and helped spread the word about Northwestern women’s basketball by talking with people in the community at the Taste of Chicago. Jaeschke is also active within the Northwestern Athletics community, serving as the secretary of SAAC last year after having been a member since her freshman year.

Competition

Jaeschke has been an All-Big Ten selection the last three years, including a first-team nod last season. In 2009-10, Jaeschke led the Wildcats to their first postseason appearance in 16 years, guiding NU to the WNIT’s round of 16. Already the Wildcats’ career blocks leader, Jaeschke will look to crack the NCAA records book this season, needing just 85 blocks to rank in the top 25 all-time in Division I. She finished sixth in the nation in blocks last year (3.21 per game). Jaeschke has been NU’s leading scorer and rebounder for the past three seasons, including averaging 16.9 ppg and 7.2 rpg last year, which ranked fourth and fifth in the conference, respectively. Jaeschke enters her senior year as a preseason All-Big Ten first-team selection.
