Classroom

Andrew is a two-time member of the WCHA All-Academic Team and was a WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award recipient one year ago.  He was the men’s hockey representative on UMD’s Athletic Academic Support Center Scholar List for maintaining the best cumulative grade point average of any Bulldog during the 2006-07 school year and currently maintains a 3.32 GPA.  Carroll will finish his “course” work in his field of study (physical education) this spring and will have just his student teaching left. Once his hockey playing days are over, he hopes to become a teacher and coach.

Character

Carroll has held a full-time team captaincy role with the Bulldogs in each of the past three seasons and is serving as as a UMD tri-captain this winter.  Co-captain the 2006-07 Bulldogs Andrew was the first sophomore to so in 56 years.  In addition, he served as an alternate team captain one year ago and received the 2005-06 Goldie Wolfe Award as UMD’s Most Inspirational Player.

Community

Carroll has been active in a number of volunteer activities in the Duluth Community over the past several years, and is the first one called when a player is requested for such events.  Previous activities include fundraisers for the American Breast Cancer Society and the Duluth Boy’s and Girl’s Club, as well as making visits to local hospitals and elementary schools.  In addition, he is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on campus.

Competition

Andrew has skated a regular shift with the Bulldogs for the past four seasons, spending ample time on the team’s power play and penalty killing units as well.  He has collected 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 points in 119 career games and topped the 2007-08 Bulldogs in goals with eight.
