Character

“Andrew is an unbelievable representative of Butler, and his development on the court has been due to his strong work ethic and team-first attitude.  Andrew is an active engaged member in the Indianapolis community, always willing to visit schools, local food banks, and many other service opportunities.  He has not only done that, but also completed his first internship with Pearl Street Ventures this summer, while still maintaining a growth trend as a basketball player and student.  He epitomizes what the Senior Class award is all about!”—Butler Head Coach Brad Stevens

Community

Smith has been active in a number of community service projects, including serving annually at the “Bread Bowl” soup kitchen at North United Methodist Church.  This past year, he spoke on the responsibility of being a student-athlete to students at Sheridan Middle School, and he participated in Butler’s elementary school reading program.  He also participated in the annual “Elephant Awareness Week” at the Indianapolis Zoo.

Competition

Smith was the leading scorer and second-leading rebounder for Butler’s 22-15 team that advanced to the semifinals of the postseason College Basketball Invitational in 2011-12.  He started 36 of 37 games as a junior, and he’s been a starter in 68 of Butler’s last 70 contests.  He ranked second in the Horizon League in field goal shooting as a sophomore, and he boasts a .546 career field goal shooting mark.  He’s the lone player on Butler’s current squad to see action in both the 2010 and 2011 Final Fours.
