Character

Served as a captain for CMU the last two seasons … CMU the only junior selected captain in 2013 … known as a leader on the offensive line and the entire offense.

Community

Andy frequently volunteers for community service events, both with the football team and on his own … he has taken a part in team community service events   at the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen … also worked hours to raise money for the local Food Pantry and visited with the elderly at assisted living homes in the area … Phillips has joined other teammates to volunteer at the Special Olympics of Michigan … he has taken part in multiple areas during the summer games including serving as a greeter for all the athletes during the opening ceremonies.

Competition

A three year starter at offensive guard, Phillips earned All-MAC second honors last year, starting all 12 games …  he also extended his starts streak to a team-high 30 games … Phillips was named CMU’s Offensive Upfront Player of the Year Award in 2013 … In 2012, he helped anchor an offensive line that allowed just 15 sacks, which ranked No. 17 nationally.
