Classroom

English graduated in May 2009 and will be enrolled in graduate school as he completes his eligibility. He finished with a 3.20 GPA in Arts and Sciences Planned Program and was named to the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 first team.

Character

English is a role model for his teammates after battling through injuries and surgeries to keep returning to starting role. He has missed significant playing time after going through a hairline ankle fracture, an appendectomy, and a knee injury. His teammates say they look up to him because of his willingness to keep coming back from adversity. He leads by example.

Community

As a fifth-year senior, English has been involved in a number of community service activities including Special Spectators, when the OU team hosts children from the OKC Children’s Hospital; hosting Special Olympians; reading to elementary school children; working on a Habitat for Humanity
house build and volunteering at the Baptist Boys Ranch. He also was part of a public service campaign that dealt with mental health issues by reading PSAs.

Competition

English had a breakout season in 2007. He was named first team All-Big 12 and honorable mention All-America. He ranked 15th nationally in sacks, leading his team with 13 tackles for loss. He was honorable mention All-Big 12 in 2008 despite missing three games with an injury. He has played in 22 games with 19 starts. He has 69 total tackles, 38 unassisted, 22 tackles for loss (129 yards) and 14 sacks (102 yards in losses). He also has four pass break-ups.
