Classroom

Ulmo carries a 3.4 overall GPA and is an NSCAA Scholar All-America for the 2012 season. He has earned Dean’s List honors in each of his six semesters while a student at Radford. He has also earned the Big South Presidential Honor Roll in his freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons. During the 2012-13 season, he represented the men’s soccer team on the Radford Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Character

As an international student, Ulmo faced some challenges in attending college in the USA that a lot of student-athletes do not have to face. 
He continually shows a true dedication to maximizing his full academic and athletic potential. According to Radford head coach Marc Reeves, “He works extremely hard on a daily basis year round and leads by example both on and off the field. His character and integrity are of the highest level and he always represents Radford in a first class manner.” During the 2012-13 season, he represented the men’s soccer team on the Radford Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Community

Ulmo has been a leader in many of the Radford men’s soccer team’s community service projects. The most notable of which is the team’s very close association with Area 9 Special Olympics of Virginia (SOVA) participating in multiple events each year. The teams also does a yearly Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics by taking a dip into the New River adjacent to the RU campus each winter. As a team leader, he has helped organize and coordinate his teammates’ involvement in these community service projects and events.

Competition

In the 2012 season alone, Ulmo was a Big South Conference First-Team selection, VaSID First-Team All-State selection, NSCAA Division I All-South Atlantic Regional Third-Team selection, NSCAA Scholar Third Team All-America selection. He started 19 games for the Highlanders while appearing in 20 and Led Radford with 11 goals. He ranked third on team with three assists and led team with three game-winning goals (Campbell 9/22; Gardner-Webb 9/29; Longwood 10/3). He had a period of five straight games with a goal (9/22 - 10/6), and he scored six goals during that stretch.
