Cal Burke

Classroom

An excellent student as a business analytics major in Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, Burke’s cumulative GPA is over 3.4. He earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2018 and 2019 and was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team in 2017. Burke was also the team’s 2018 Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Rockne Student-Athlete Award winner.

Character

Burke was named the Notre Dame team captain for his senior season. He is the unquestioned leader of the Irish. Burke, who served as an alternate captain as a junior, is also a member of Notre Dame’s Rosenthal Leadership Academy. Burke earned the Compton Family Leadership in Service Award in 2019 and was Notre Dame’s 2019 Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree.

Community

Burke is very active in the Notre Dame community and beyond. He was one of the spearheads in the team’s involvement with the Fighting Irish Fight for Life program. Burke is also a member of Notre Dame’s Student Athlete Advisory Council. A 2019 Hockey Humanitarian award finalist, Burke serves on a mental health sub-group within the SAAC, working to reduce the stigma around mental health and help-seeking.

Competition

Burke, a forward, entered his senior season with 29 goals and 38 assists for 67 points in 109 career games played. The Boxborough, Massachusetts, native tied for the team lead with 12 goals last season en route to posting a career-best 30 points. A 2019 Preseason All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection, Burke was a Hobey Baker Fan Vote nominee in 2018-19.
