Classroom
Carlie Wagner was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team last season with a 3.64 grade-point average, becoming the first Gopher to make an Academic All-America roster in 11 years. Wagner has earned CoSIDA Academic All-District and Academic All-Big Ten recognition both years in which she has been eligible to receive them.
Character
Wagner leads by example with a work ethic Head Coach Marlene Stollings calls “impeccable,” both on and off the court. Wagner has also grown into more of a vocal leader as an upperclassman. She strives to be a role model for her peers and for young athletes, especially girls who hope to follow in her footsteps.
Community
Wagner has logged 42 volunteering hours through the Gophers’ Maroon and Gold Impacting the Community (MAGIC) program, including visits to the children’s hospital. She is a proud member of the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva community where she grew up and always takes time to talk to and thank people who make the trip from there to games. Throughout her career, Wagner has taken time to sign autographs and take pictures with kids at games or summer basketball camp.
Competition
Wagner was a 2016 and 2017 All-Big Ten Second Team selection after starting her career with All-Freshman honors and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2015. As a junior, she led Minnesota in scoring with 19.1 points per game and made a team-high 82 3-pointers. Wagner entered the season eighth on the Gophers’ career scoring list with 1,597 points and fourth on the 3-point list with 205 made. Her career scoring average of 16.6 points per game ranks sixth in program history.
