Chase Berger two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a 2018 AHCA All-American Scholar. Making the dean’s list in all six of his semesters at Penn State, he maintains a 3.95 cumulative GPA and has accomplished three semesters with a 4.0 GPA.

Character

Berger served as an alternate captain as a junior during the 2017-18 season and is currently wearing the “C” as a senior. He is well-respected around the league and has only taken 13 minor penalties during his time at Penn State, including two last season.

Community

Partnering with former alternate captain Ricky DeRosa three seasons ago, Berger began a reading rewards program at a local elementary school in State College. Berger and the team will visit a local classroom a few times per month and read stories to them and also participate in different games with the children. He is a member of SAAB,  Student Athlete Advisory Board, and has helped give instruction during local youth hockey practices at Pegula Ice Arena.

Competition

The senior hasn’t missed a game since he stepped foot on campus, playing in 115 straight contests to open the 2018-19 season. Berger currently ranks third in program history with 89 career points while his 37 goals and 52 assists rank fifth and second, respectively. He is second in program history with a plus-37 rating, while his 11 power-play tallies rank second at Penn State.
