Classroom
Chris Kushneriuk leads the team with a 3.7 GPA. He has posted three semesters with a perfect 4.0 and has never earned a grade lower than a B. Kushneriuk earned the team’s student-athlete of the year award a season ago. He’s twice earned All-Academic honors from College Hockey America and also was also honored with the Randy Soma business scholarship for a research case study.
Character
Kushneriuk came to Robert Morris and quickly became a leader as a captain for all three of his seasons. He spent his first two seasons as an assistant captain and will wear the “C” in the 2010-11 season. He earned the team’s Most Inspirational Player award following the 2008-09 season.
Community
Kushneriuk is a very active member in both the Pittsburgh and Moon Township communities as well as his hometown of Ottawa, Ontario. In Pittsburgh he volunteers for a youth hockey team called the Arctic Foxes. He also works in the Robert Morris community volunteering at the Sewickley Harvest Festival and Moon Township youth soccer and softball teams. In his hometown of Ottawa, Kushneriuk helps with Kids Come First Foundation as well as other organizations that help underprivileged youths.
Competition
In his junior season, Kushneriuk registered 29 points. He scored a shorthanded goal against Miami (Ohio) last season in the Colonials two-game sweep of the then-No. 1 RedHawks. Kushneriuk spent his freshman season with Wayne State until the program folded after the 2007-08 season.
