Chris Neild maintains a 3.0 grade point average in multidisciplinary studies. For his work in the classroom, Neild has been named to the Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll several semesters while also making the Dean’s List once.

Character

In the past year Neild has really developed into a team leader. In addition to being a model student-athlete, Neild practices hard every day, spends time with and provides guidance and leadership for his teammates and he doesn’t speak badly about or to opponents. Neild displays an even demeanor and takes each victory and defeat with class, often encouraging his teammates after a loss or giving praise to them after a victory. He is very humble and always take time to give autographs to fans and children.

Community

Neild has visited sick children at the West Virginia University Children’s Hospital and served as a role model. He has also visited Boys and Girls Clubs in West Virginia and signed many items for kids and groups to auction for charities and for sick people in the hospital.

Competition

As the anchor of West Virginia’s defense, Neild always gives everything he has within the rules of the game on the field. He has been named first-team preseason All-Big East by Phil Steele, Athlon Sports, Yahoo! Sports and Sporting News. The Mountaineer coaching staff is counting on Neild for leadership as he enters his third season as the starter at nose tackle. He often speaks in the team huddle and works hard to build team chemistry.
