Green maintains a 3.04 GPA in education and he’s a three-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s honor roll.
Character
Green turned down a $300,000 offer from Detroit Tigers to return for senior season. “I felt that a degree from Texas and winning a national championship were worth more than $300,000,” Green said. “My goal is to come back and for us to win the whole thing.” Green has had to overcome an accident from his childhood, when, at the age of 14, he was run over by a trailer attached to a pick-up truck, which punctured his lung, lacerated his liver, ruptured a vertebrae, fractured a few ribs and left tread marks up and down his leg.
Community
Green has spent two years as a mentor for children at Kealing Middle School in Austin.
Competition
As a junior, Green was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year after amassing an 11-2 record with a 2.74 earned run average, four complete games and two shutouts. He was also named first-team All-American by the NCBWA and Louisville Slugger, as well as a second-team All-American by the ABCA.
