Character

“Waitman is an ideal leader. He is a great player and communicator, and he does well in the classroom. He does a lot of things for us both as our punter and kickoff specialist. He leads by example and comes prepared every day to work really hard and perfect his craft.” - Matt Kitchens, Special Teams Coordinator

Community

Waitman volunteers at a number of events including the Wilmer Children’s Home (April 2018) and Special Olympics (April 2018). He has been a speaker at a special services event (March 2018), a children’s Christmas toy drive (December 2017) and with the University of South Alabama Freshman Move-in Day (August 2015-2018).

Competition

Waitman is a preseason All-America by SI.com and Athlon Sports, a member of the Reese’s Senior Bowl and Ray Guy Award watch lists, and a preseason first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection.

In 2017, he ranked third on the organization’s top five list of Coffin Kickers with a 89.86 rating, received first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors and got an honorable mention nod on the inaugural All-American Punter team. Waitman averaged a school-record 45.24 yards per punt, which ranked first in the conference and was eighth in the country, and his efforts helped South rank seventh nationally in net punting while leading the Sun Belt in the category. His 43.08 average was good for first all-time at South Alabama.
