Greg Ward Jr. is currently majoring in Kinesiology at the University of Houston and has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll seven times.

Character

Ward Jr. was voted team captain by his teammates this year and has led the team to a 23-2 record as a quarterback including a nation’s best 18-game winning streak (as of games prior to the October 8 weekend).

Community

Ward Jr. has helped lead flood relief initiatives by collecting donations of bottled water and supplies from other teammates and distributing them to Houston’s hardest hit areas. He also serves as a “teammate” to honorary team member Jacolby Rogers who suffers from renal disease. He visits Rogers at Memorial Hermann hospital several times a year during treatments. Ward Jr. is active in organizing additional youth visits at Memorial Hermann and serves as a campus mentor and keynote speaker at the University of Houston Admissions Event for African-American freshmen.

Competition

Ward Jr. won the 2015 Earl Campbell Award, 2015 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Offensive MVP and was named the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship MVP. He was also an All-American Athletic Conference Second Team selection, a 2015 Manning Award Finalist, 2015 Maxwell Award Semifinalist and a 2015 Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist.
