Classroom

Jami was a member of the 2008 Division I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team and was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 Team as both a sophomore and junior. She also is a two-time West Coast Conference Winter All-Academic honoree. She holds a holds a 3.94 GPA in business administration.

Character

Jami has played hurt for most of the past two seasons. She is a member of SAAC and is the Zags team captain. Jami finished an internship with the marketing department in athletics at Gonzaga this summer, where she worked on increasing attendance at women’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball and men’s soccer games. This summer, Jami was married to Drew Schaefer and still finds time to organize and lead weekly team bible study and is highly involved with her church.

Community

Jami was the key note speaker for an audience of 2,000 people at the Annual Youth Awards Luncheon in 2008. Has volunteered at Lilac Plaza Retirement Community and assisted with the Alzheimer’s Association Fundraiser in both 2007 and 2008. Jami also represented the women’s basketball team at local venues during Breast Cancer Awareness Week all three years (2006-2008). She also coached children and helped to improve their basketball skills for the Active-Youth Gonzaga Basketball clinic that provides after-school activities for underprivileged children in 2006 and 2007. Assisted with the 2006 Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Golf Fundraiser. Raised funds for the 2006 Vanessa Behan Crisis Benefit during the Pumpkin Charity Ball. Elementary School guest speaker, guest reader, and volunteer from 2005-2008. Mentored young girls during Spokane Stars Basketball Camps while teaching the basic fundamentals of basketball (2005-2008).

Competition

Jami has helped Gonzaga to West Coast Conference regular season crowns each of her three years on the squad. She also was starter on the 2006-07 team that won thier first-ever WCC Tournament title and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. She was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and earned All-WCC honorable mention. She has started 75 of 98 games at Gonzaga, averaging 8.6 points, 3.8 rebounds per game and shooting 42.5 percent from the field.
