Classroom

Despite transferring from Ohio State to Duke, Jeremy Cash has already graduated from Duke with a bachelor’s in psychology, and he is currently pursuing a master’s in liberal studies. Cash was an Academic All-ACC Football Team choice in 2014, and entering the 2015 season he holds a 3.196 cumulative GPA.

Character

Cash was a 2014 team captain, as elected by his teammates last fall. He is a tireless worker who is expected to anchor the secondary again this season. For the overall team, he will be counted on to fill key leadership roles within the squad. Cash has spent countless hours in the film room with younger players, teaching them and helping them improve their productivity on the field. He is always willing to lend his time and assistance to younger players as they adjust to college life and Duke football.

Community

Cash’s community outreach highlights include the following:
Volunteer, Durham Rescue Mission – A faith-based, non-profit organization dedicated to providing food, support and shelter to those in need.
Volunteer, Christmas Gift Wrap – A project to provide presents for those in need in conjunction with neighboring N.C. Central University.
Volunteer, Duke Campus Trash Cleanup – An annual project in which every member of the football program spends several hours clearing Duke University’s campus of trash.
Volunteer, Ronald McDonald House – Visits the local Ronald McDonald House and spends time with the ill children and their families, playing bingo weekly during the off-season.

Competition

A returning All-ACC and All-America selection at safety, Cash is a preseason All-America pick by Athlon Sports (2nd team), CBS Sports (2nd team), ESPN (1st team), Lindy’s Sports (2nd team), Phil Steele (1st team), Sports Illustrated (1st team) and Sporting News (2nd team). He has been named to the watch lists for the Maxwell Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Bednarik Award, Thorpe Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy. This fall he is also a preseason first-team All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports, ESPN, Lindy’s Sports, Phil Steele and Sporting News. Cash is charted as the No. 2 safety in the nation by Lindy’s Sports and is the NFLDraftScout.com No. 1 draft-eligible strong safety. He was tabbed as the No. 10 overall draft-eligible prospect in the ACC by Lindy’s Sports.

In 27 career games (27 starts) at Duke, Cash has 232 tackles, 20.0 tackles for loss, 5.5 quarterback sacks, six INTs, 11 PBUs, six caused fumbles, three fumble recoveries and seven QB pressures. He ranks 14th among active players nationally in career tackles and has reached double digits in tackles in 10 career games, including a personal-high 14 stops against Georgia Tech (2013) and Troy (2013). Cash enters the season as one of five players with multiple 100+ tackle seasons and one of six active players with 200+ tackles and 20.0+ TFL. He was the only defensive back in the country to have tallied 100+ tackles, 10.0+ TFL and 5.0+ sacks in 2014.
