Kelsey Lang has a 3.5156 grade-point average and is majoring in economics with a minor in business administration. She was named a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection in 2015 and 2016, and was a member of the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team in 2014. She is a five-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and was named her team’s academic MVP in 2015-16 for boasting the highest GPA on the team. Lang was Texas’ NCAA Elite 90 Award nominee in 2015-16 and is a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee. In 2016, she was honored as a University of Texas Provost Award recipient.

Character

Lang is a member of her team’s Leadership Council for the 2016-17 season. She is an example in the classroom for her teammates, as she takes academics very seriously and inspires her teammates to do the same. She is heavily involved in community service, especially with activities related to inspiring young women to lead healthy lifestyles. Coming from a deep line of athletes in her family, she is always willing to sign autographs or encourage young fans at games.

Community

Lang has participated in the Orange Santa Toy Drive, taught basic basketball skills as part of UT Informal Education Classes and has participated in Marathon Kids in each of the last three years, running laps with children and giving them words of encouragement about a healty lifestyle. Lang also has served as a motivational speaker for local elementary school students, and in 2013-14, she assisted with the American Lung Association Fight for the Climb. Lang took pictures with a “Flat Stanley” as part of the Texas Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Carpenter Hill Elementary Photo Project, showing students what a day in the life of a college student-athlete looks like.

Competition

As of nomination time, Lang had played in 104 career games with 50 starts. In 2015 she earned a All-Big 12 Second Team selection, and she currently ranks 11th in school history with 111 career blocks. Lang has recorded career averages of 7.5 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 1.1 blocks per game. As a sophomore in 2014-15, she led her team in total points (359) and total rebounds (218), and has scored in double-figures on 33 occasions during her collegiate career. Lang has helped Texas to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a 31-5 record and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance as a junior in 2015-16.
