Rice is a history major in Syracuse University’s prestigious College of Arts and Sciences. He owns a 3.95 cumulative GPA and will earn his bachelor’s degree in May 2015. Rice was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team in 2014, and he’s a two-time Capital One Academic All-District selection. In 2013, Rice became the first Syracuse men’s lacrosse player to win the NCAA’s Elite 89 Award for maintaining the highest cumulative GPA of any player at the Final Four. Rice was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in 2012 and 2013 and to the ACC All-Academic Team and ACC Honor Roll in 2014.

Rice has received SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA) distinction and been named to the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s List (min. 3.4 GPA) in each of his first seven semesters on campus. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and a recipient of Syracuse University’s Founders’ Scholarship for academic excellence.

Character

Rice is a senior co-captain for the Orange. In that role, he is responsible for helping organize team activities and leading the Orange in pre-practice runs and conditioning. In addition, he serves as a liaison between the coaching staff and players regarding team issues. Rice also mentors team members and organizes team events to develop camaraderie among the group.

Community

Rice volunteers his time through the game of lacrosse. As a coach and instructor for the LB3 Lacrosse Club in 2013, Rice created and implemented practice plans for a 25-player team. He also evaluated and provided individual feedback and instruction to young players and helped supervise players during tournaments. Rice also worked as a student-athlete representative for Syracuse’s popular series of summer lacrosse camps in 2012, helping facilitate practice sessions for more than 200 players.

Competition

Entering his third season as a starter on attack, Rice is a 2015 Inside Lacrosse Preseason First-Team All-American and he ranks in the top 10 among active Division I players in assists, points, assists per game and points per game. Rice has started all 36 games for the Orange over the past two seasons. In 2014, Rice was a Tewaaraton Award candidate as the nation’s best player. He earned 2014 USILA Second-Team All-America honors and was named All-ACC after leading the conference in assists (44) and finishing second in the league in points (80). A 2014 ACC All-Tournament Team selection, Rice set conference tournament records for points (15) and assists (11) last season. As a sophomore in 2013, Rice ranked second on the Orange in points (55) and assists (32) to help Syracuse to a 16-4 record, the BIG EAST title and an appearance in the NCAA National Championship game. Rice was selected with the No. 23 overall pick by the Florida Launch in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.
