Classroom

Kimbal Mackenzie has a 3.47 cumulative GPA as an economics major. He is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and a 2017 member of the five-man Academic All-Patriot League Team. Mackenzie was selected for participation in the Bucknell Athletics Leadership Institute.

Character

Mackenzie is a team co-captain and one of the premier leaders among all Bucknell student-athletes. He is a go-to guy when the athletic department needs a spokesperson or a student-athlete to interact with alumni/donors.

From Head Coach Nathan Davis: “Kimbal is just a mentally tough, confident player. He has a habit of making important plays when we need them. He is a great leader who is always upbeat. You would never know if he’s not playing well just by watching his body language and how he interacts with his teammates.”

Community

As a team captain, Mackenzie leads many of the Bucknell basketball team’s community events, including an annual Halloween trip to pass out candy to kids being treated at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.

Competition

After playing in every game off the bench as a freshman, Mackenzie has been Bucknell’s starting two guard on Patriot League championship and NCAA Tournament teams in each of the last two seasons. He was a third-team All-Patriot League selection in 2016-17, then last year worked his way back after missing 10 games due to surgery to repair an abdominal muscle tear. He averaged a career-high 11.9 ppg as a sophomore, including 23 points against West Virginia in a 4-point loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Last season, he hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help Bucknell to an improbable rally from eight points down with 21 seconds to play to beat Colgate. The play was the lead story on ESPN’s SportsCenter.
