Classroom

McCarthy is a solid student who has kept a 3.01 cumulative grade-point average while also being a standout on a highly successful team and devoting a lot of time to outside projects. She was named to Temple’s Athletic Director’s Honor Roll as a junior. She is very focused on gaining experience for the careers she would like to pursue, which are first to be a professional basketball player either in the United States or overseas, and later to work in broadcast communications. She is very bright and well-spoken and likely to be successful in whatever she sets out to do.

Character

McCarthy is just an outstanding person. She is unfailingly positive, is one of the hardest workers and really just lifts the mood of anyone around her. She handles both winning and losing with grace, but has a drive to succeed that makes it clear how much she wants to win. She supports her teammates and has their utmost respect, and is the type of person that is close to her coaches without garnering any resentment from her teammates. She is very close to her family, and her brother Korbin even followed her all the way to Temple from the Los Angeles area where they are from.

Community

McCarthy is a vital part of Temple’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and of the student-athlete body. She is always willing to help with anything asked of her. McCarthy has great leadership skills and tremendous school spirit, but most importantly she is a team player. She brings these qualities to the table in SAAC meetings, whether it be during a discussion of proposed legislation or getting her fellow student-athletes to be excited about an upcoming sporting event or community service project. McCarthy has been an active member of the SAAC since her sophomore year and serves as the Vice President now in her senior year. She is involved in many community service projects with her team that were run though SAAC including the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, the Holiday Toy Drive, and the Easter Basket Drive. McCarthy is also involved in the community service efforts her team initiates on their own. McCarthy was a student-athlete representative to the President’s Advisory Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics (PACIA) for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Competition

McCarthy has been one of the top players on the team and in the Atlantic 10 since her arrival at Temple. She was an A-10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman, an A-10 First Team selection as a sophomore, and an A-10 Second Team selection as a junior. She is averaging 12.3 points per game for her career heading into her senior year, which includes a 14.8 ppg average as a sophomore. With 1,203 points she currently ranks 11th all-time at Temple- a program that has experienced a lot of success. McCarthy’s teams have advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each year of her career, and to the NCAA Second Round each of the last two years. She was the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year in 2010, and scored 42 points in a win against Charlotte that season to set Temple’s all-time single-game record.
