La’el is on pace to graduate in spring 2015 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

Character

La’el is a member of the Unity Council for the second straight season. The Unity Council is a select few players who serve as team leaders for LSU football. He turned down an opportunity to forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft last year because he believed he could develop more not only as a player but as a person and leader for this team, and he wanted the opportunity to finish his degree.

Community

As part of LSU’s “Geaux Givers” service initiative, La’el participated in the LSU Move-In Day last year to help incoming freshmen move into dorms and feel welcomed to the LSU community. In addition, he made a hospital visit during LSU’s week in Tampa for the Outback Bowl. Outside of LSU, he has been involved with the BREC/Alaska Street Boys and Girls Club of Baton Rouge. He attended the Boys and Girls Club from 4th to 6th grade, so he made it a priority to give back to the club that helped him during his formative years.

Competition

La’el is the starting left tackle for LSU, and he enters his senior season as one of the premiere offensive linemen in the nation. He is a candidate for the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Trophy. A second-team All-SEC selection as a junior, Collins has racked up 134.5 knockdowns in his career, including a career-high nine against Arkansas last season. He earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week against TCU in last year’s season opener, and he anchored a line that produced a school-record 37 rushing touchdowns in 2013.
