Classroom

Weinberg has totaled a 3.473 grade point average since arriving in Durham.  Has been named to the Dean’s List at Duke in Spring 2011 and Fall 2011.  As a junior, named Capital One Academic All-America Third Team and Capital One Academic All-District III.  Earned All-ACC Academic Team accolades as a freshman, sophomore and junior.  Selected to the ACC Honor Roll in each of her three years.  After graduating college, Weinberg would like to play professionally either in the USA or overseas. Afterwards she plans to use her sports background/marketing certificate from Duke to acquire a job in sports marketing or advertising. She also has aspirations to start a non-profit of her own. She hopes to create a unique mentoring/coaching program that targets disadvantaged children from low-income families who have dropped out of school. Through her non-profit she wishes to get these children back on track by way of a distinct mentoring system which will inspire the child to excel in both education and sports.

Character

Weinberg is an outstanding young lady who is concerned about her teammates and is very active in the community.  She has grown as a leader since arriving in Durham.  Weinberg is not as vocal of a leader as some others but is a great mentor to the young players on the team. She makes a point to help out young kids whenever she can.

Community

Weinberg has been heavily involved during her time at Duke.  She was a First Year Leadership Program Mentor in which she facilitated a group of 15 first year student-athletes to ease their transition into an academically demanding university.  Weinberg was a tutor at C.C. Spaulding Elementary School for two spring semesters where she assisted elementary school teachers in creating lesson plans to teach math, science, and history to underprivileged children throughout each spring semester. She also tutored students individually on a need-based schedule.  She has volunteered several hours at various organizations and non-profits including the Duke Children’s Hospital, The Monday Life, American Red Cross, Race for the Cure and the YMCA. Weinberg has worked as a volunteer soccer coach at TopSoccer, a program in her hometown for children with mental and physical disabilities. I also took the initiative to organize a community service event/campus project with 5 other Duke students. The event was a field day for mentally and physically challenged children. We held fundraisers, contacted the participants, managed and set up the field and facilities, and oversaw a two hour long field day event. We had a spectacular turn out of over 30 disabled children and the event was a huge success. The six of us as founders of the event hope to maintain it and grow it as an annual field day filled with fun and laughter. We hope to assist more and more mentally and physically challenged children in the Durham community each year.

Competition

After coming off a breakout junior campaign collecting 16 goals, 12 assists and a school-record 44 points, Weinberg has started slow in 2013 with two goals and a tied for team-high three assists.  She has scored two goals over the last three contests as the 22nd-ranked Blue Devils battle in the very challenging ACC schedule. Her 16 goals a year ago were tied for a team high and was a career high, while ranking tied for second on Duke’s single-season chart.  Weinberg, a Soccer America MVP in 2012, also notched five game-winning goals and registered eight of her 16 goals against ACC opponents in 2012.  Over her career, has tallied 36 goals, which ranks third on Duke’s all-time scoring list.  Her 93 career points ranks third on Duke’s all-time points list and is only two points away from moving into a tie for second place.  Weinberg’s eight career multi-goal contests ranks second on the Duke charts.  Her nine game-winning goals ranks tied for seventh at Duke all-time.  She has started 78 of 84 games played. Earned TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season third team, Second Team All-Southeast Region and First Team All-ACC honors as a junior.  Weinberg ranked tied for second in the ACC with 44 points, while her 16 goals tied for a team-high and tied for third in the ACC.  In the Duke single-season record books, she was first in points (44), first in points per game (1.91), ranked fifth in game-winning goals (5), second in multi-goal games (4), tied for second in goals (16) and tied for third in assists (12).  In the 2012 NCAA stats, ranked 11th in ppg per game (1.91), 24th in gpg(0.696), 19th in apg (0.52), sixth in sixth in assists (12), 17th in game-winning goals.
