Classroom

Maddie Palmer will graduate after the fall semester, which is a semester earlier than her normal graduation date. She made the Dean’s List for 8 out of 10 semesters of taking classes. Palmer was also named to the President’s List for the spring semester of 2017. She currently holds a 3.4 cumulative GPA and has a passion for volleyball and music. She plans to play volleyball professionally, and following that wants to do social media for a band.

Character

Palmer is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. There are two representatives from each team. The senior has been in SAAC for two years and has done multiple activities within the organization. She went down with an ankle injury her sophomore year and missed five weeks in the beginning of the season. She finished the season strong and went on to win Big South Conference Player of the Year the very next season.

Community

Palmer works closely with the Special Olympics, which is hosted on campus. She also helped collect feminine hygiene products for a women’s shelter, and, as a volleyball student-athlete, she engages with children ages 11 and under at a volleyball camp. (The volleyball team puts on the free clinic for the campers.)

Competition

Palmer was named Big South Player of the Year, Big South All-Conference First Team, Big South All-Tournament Team and VaSID All-State First Team as a junior. She started 30 matches, appeared in 110 sets and ranked ninth in the Big South with a .248 attack percentage in 2016. Also in the same year, she led the Big South with 4.50 kills per match, which is second-best in a single-season in program history. She led the Big South with 47 service aces and ranked third in a single-season at Radford. Palmer totaled 568 points and averaged 5.16 per set, both led the Big South in 2016. She recorded 495 kills, which ranks second in a single-season at Radford. She has begun her senior season winning three Big South Player of the Week honors out of the first four weeks.
