Classroom

Kastanek was a 2012 Academic All-American (second team). She was the 2012 ACC women’s basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She has a 4.0 grade-point-average and ranks No. 1 among 5,567 students in her major. She has minors in coaching, Spanish and sports science.

Character

Kastanek was a 2011 Team USA team captain at the Pan American Games in Mexico. She is the 2012-13 NC State team captain and a member of the SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee). Kastanek took a trip to Costa Rica as part of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. She is unquestionably the hardest worker at NC State.

Community

Kastanek is a volunteer at CampPack (The Collegiate Achievement Mentoring Program) at a local elementary school. She was part of the Wake County Holiday Cheer Program (her team raised money to purchase Thanksgiving meal for local family) and was a MAGIC (Maximizing Academic Growth in College) peer instructor - a summer bridge program for new student-athletes. Kastanek participated in Los Somos, a campus event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

Competition

Kastanek is a two-time nonorable mention All-ACC selection. She was a 2012 ACC All-Tournament first team and 2010 second team selection and a 2010 Freshman All-American. She enters her senior season with 1,230 points (20th in school history) and ranks among the all-time ACC leaders in free throw shooting. Her 171 career three-pointers is fourth in NC State history.
