Egnew’s teammates look at him as a high-character individual, as evidenced by their selection of him as a team captain this season. Egnew is very devoted to his team and to representing his teammates, coaches, university and friends and family the right way.

Community

Egnew is one of the leaders on the team in terms of the time he makes for serving in the community. He has made numerous trips of his own volition to the local children’s hospital to brighten the day of children and families, and he has also served as a mentor for numerous grade-school children in Columbia by making visits to schools to read and hang out with the kids. Egnew is also active in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and has volunteered his time to assist the local food bank with various chores.

Competition

Egnew is among the preseason favorites for the Mackey Award, which goes annually to the nation’s top tight end. As a junior he was a consensus first-team All-American after leading all tight ends with 90 receptions, which went for 762 yards and five touchdowns.
