Classroom

Mikaela Foecke has received three Academic All-Big Ten honors, two in court volleyball and one in beach. Majoring in animal science, she carries a 3.649 GPA and has been a dean’s list selection and a five-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. Foecke has received Nebraska’s High Honors (Silver) Academic Medallion twice.

Character

Foecke is a team captain in her 2018 senior season and has served as a team representative on the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She has shown exemplary character throughout her Husker career, and in 2016 she was a finalist for the AAU Sullivan Award, which goes to the top amateur athlete in the United States each year for contributions both on and off the court. Foecke graciously does everything that is asked of her as a student-athlete and is often the last player to leave the arena after a match, as she willingly visits with family, friends and adoring fans seeking pictures and autographs.

Community

Foecke has volunteered at dozens of events throughout her Husker career. She is a three-time Tom Osborne Citizenship Team member and a Diversity & Inclusion Summit leader. Foecke has helped the Husker volleyball program win the Nebraska’s Life Skills Award for the most community service hours by volunteering at numerous events including the following events and causes: One Shirt One Body, Uplifting Athletes Road Race, School is Cool, Career Academy, Alzheimer’s Care Center, People’s City Mission, Reverse Trick-or-Treating, Teen Day, Husker Heroes, Boo at the Zoo, Red Cross Pass the Bucket, bone marrow drive, Super Bowl food drive, Husker Helpline, Make-a-Wish Family Reunion, clothing drive, food drive and more.

Competition

Foecke is a two-time NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player, one of only four volleyball players in NCAA history to accomplish that feat and the only player to do it in non-consecutive years (2015 and 2017). She is a second-team AVCA All-American and a PrepVolleyball.com first-team All-American. Foecke was a unanimous All-Big Ten selection in 2017 and a unanimous preseason All-Big Ten selection this year. She is a two-time Big Ten Player of the Week and was the University of Nebraska’s Female Newcomer of the Year (2015-2016) after leading NU to the NCAA Championship. Foecke received All-America Honorable Mention as both a freshman and sophomore, and she was the PrepVolleyball.com Freshman of the Year in 2015. A three-time AVCA All-Region selection, Foecke ranks in NU’s top 15 in career kills and career aces.
