He maintains a 3.8 overall GPA in Health and Wellness and aspires to go to medical or pharmacy school after graduation. Character

While being named the team’s co-captain by his peers for last two seasons, Orvin wasn’t always wanted for his baseball prowess. He was only offered to play Division I baseball at one program, The Citadel. However, Orvin has blossomed with the Bulldogs, turning into an all-conference performer. Despite a heavy course-load of more than 19 hours in each of the last four semesters, including two during the baseball season, Orvin still finds time to remain an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. When he was born, Orvin overcame a dangerous infection caused by Strep B. Doctors gave him slim chances to live past his first few months, but he survived through it and that perseverance has stayed with him.

Community

Orvin has helped coach teams at the Charleston Miracle League, a baseball league for physically and mentally handicapped children and he also volunteers at a local food bank. Orvin continues to help coach at baseball camps in his hometown of Moncks Corner and other local little league baseball camps. He has also attended several Buddy Dances at The Citadel, which are Valentine’s Day dances for the mentally and physically handicapped, and volunteered at a church camp, helping clean and run the camp and has given speeches about perseverance and hard work to little league all-star teams.

Competition

A two-time All-Southern Conference selection following his sophomore and junior seasons, Orvin was also a SoCon All-Freshman performer in 2009. Last season, he led the team in hits, runs, home runs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks, at-bats and stolen bases and was second on the team in batting average and doubles. He was in the top-10 in the SoCon in home runs and stolen bases while hitting .359 in league games. Orvin entered the career top-10 at The Citadel in runs scored with 182 heading into his senior season.
