Character
Carter is an outstanding leader on the team and possibly one of the most community-involved players in Sooner history. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops praised Carter for his leadership on the field and “for his humility and willingness to serve others out of genuine concern. He spreads himself among a number of causes, demonstrating impressive time management skills.”
Community
Carter, a nominee for the 2010 American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team, founded the program Serving Others through Unity and Leadership (SOUL), which develops community programs in the Norman, Oklahoma City and Las Vegas (his hometown) areas. He volunteers at events like the Oklahoma City Marathon children’s run and the Delta Sigma Theta Shake-it-Well for Sickle Cell Anemia. In addition Carter works with several other programs, including Community Action, Crimson and Green, University College/Center for Student Advancement and through the OU Black Graduate Student Association. Carter also adopted a classroom at Kindercare where he is involved in bi-weekly activities for three- and four-year olds.
Competition
Carter enters his senior season on the Jim Thorpe Award watch list after earning second-team All-Big 12 honors as a junior. He was also named to the 2010 preseason All-Big 12 First Team after finishing last year with 88 tackles and leading the team with four interceptions.
