Character

Senior All-American Rachel Folden has been the leader on and off the field for the Herd during her four years at Marshall University. She made a name for herself as one of the elite catchers in collegiate softball, but continued her legacy with efforts in the Huntington Community and throughout Marshall. She’s taken on countless projects to help girls better themselves as athletes, but more importantly as individuals. She’s been a tremendous role model for many girls as a coach, “Big Sis” and even to many as a friend. The support she receives at home games shows how involved and how much she has affected the small town of Huntington. Her records, awards and selections speak for themselves, but Folden goes on just being a solid student-athlete and a solid person.

Community

Folden has spent time volunteering for the Lend a Hand Foundation Service, passing out gifts to underprivileged kids in L.A., at the Sweetheart Clinic for National Women in Sports Day. She has read to grade school students on National Read to Me Day, has participated in Sweat Equity Day, a campus clean-up project and donated her time to develop the skills of the Pt. Pleasant Girls’ Little league as well as at other various camps and clinics in the Huntington area. She is a Big Sis to two young girls in the Huntington Community, she serves as a positive role model and fosters a special relationship through letters and special events with them.

Competition

Folden has named 2007 and 2006 Second Team NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-American, 2006 Conference USA Player of the Year, 2005, 2006 and 2007 First Team NFCA All-Mideast Region, 2007 and 2006 Conference USA All-Tournament Team, 2005 Third Team NFCA/Louisville Slugger All-American, 2005 MAC All-Tournament Team, 2005 First Team All-MAC Selection, 2005 MAC Freshman of the Year.
